Nuremberg Hawks play for the first time after corona break

Twelve months without play lay behind the American football team the Nuremberg Hawks: immediately before the start of the 2020 season, the corona lockdown put the game on pause for the entire summer. This weekend, the team will finally meet their first opponents in 2020: the Hawks will play a friendly match against the Neustadt Falcons on Sunday, 20th September, starting at 3pm

Following the cancellation of the national league season, the Hawks Family, along with many other sports clubs in the region, returned to training in June. Under the direction of head coach Thomas Sumyk, players practiced moves, drills, and full-contact. With the game in Neustadt, the team will not only be able to share their joy in playing football again, but also have a chance to measure themselves at a competitive level.

After their first season without defeat in 2018, the Neustadt team is firmly anchored in the national league. Despite the lack of league games, they have been training hard since the summer. The game offers both teams critical practice with an equally matched opponent.

Hawks board member Bastian Brezinski: “We are going into the game against the Falcons with a lot of enthusiasm. After more than a year without football, we don’t know where we stand. But the boys are keen, and especially our numerous rookies are eager to stand on the field for the first time.

The Hawks Juniors will play directly before the men’s friendly match: starting at 1pm, the Flag-U16 will demonstrate their skills in a joint scrimmage with the Falcons.

Note: The friendly match at the Neustadt Falcons and the scrimmage of their Flag-U16 will, unfortunately, take place without spectators.
