Glass Fibre Roots // Audiovisuelle Live Performance und Installation @SB – Space Between
Traditional Franconian bridal crowns can now be found in remote places local history museums or the collection of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg. These relics, made from cheap materials but very laboriously produced, come from a time of corporate society. Women from the countryside and from poorer families imitated the jewelry of the higher classes and created lavish crowns from embossed brass plates (“tinsel”) and colorful beads and ribbons. These crowns were reproduced digitally: the “female” handicraft is painstakingly translated into the 21st century and as true to the original as possible with the help of 3D software. Instead of suns, grapes and animals: which icons would you emboss on the brass plates today? What does an updated version of these crowns look like? What (digital) materials can you use to design them? The 3D program Blender is free and analogous to the traditional crowns, the value of the object derives purely from the working time and creativity of the artist. A series of new crowns emerges. The crowns are presented on so-called smart mirrors, the surfaces of which can reflect as well as display colored light aka video.
In a live performance that ranges between video art installation and club, the four artists work on aspects of origin and attribution. Based on an overarching narrative and visual considerations, a bridge is built from the past to the present, from analogue to digital.
