The 72nd Musikfest ION: A Celebration of Music in Nuremberg

The highly anticipated 72nd Musikfest ION is back, promising an extraordinary musical experience for all. From June 23 to July 2, 2023, immerse yourself in the world of captivating melodies, stunning performances, and a vibrant atmosphere that will leave you spellbound.

SingBach · Musikfest ION Friday, June 23 St. Lorenz 3pm

Passionate singing, radiant children’s eyes, goosebumps, immense pride, courage, and joy: Friedhilde Trüün leads over 200 Nuremberg children to Bach’s world, groovingly accompanied by the Frank-Schlichter-Jazzensemble!

The Swingles · Bach and beyond Friday, June 23 St. Sebald 8pm

They teach the ‘godfather’ of sacred music how to swing. The Bach arrangements by the seven singers have become legendary. The five-time Grammy winners celebrate top-notch a cappella artistry!

Can you double the joy? Absolutely! By simply reimagining the grand event for the young singers, the magical experience will resonate once again. And rest assured, the Lorenzkirche will vibrate with excitement on Saturday morning.

Immerse yourself in Mendelssohn’s famous oratorio, presented in a gripping interpretation by exceptional soloists, the Audi Jugendchorakademie, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, and conductor Martin Steidler.

When a cappella voices flow weightlessly through the space, touching hearts, it can only mean one thing – it’s Sjaella time! During the Nightflight, we’ll give this sound its special moment, creating a captivating atmosphere.

Jugendkantorei · Nürnberg Sunday, June 25 St. Egidien 4pm

Resonance and consonance – we bring together vocal music stars and young talents for rehearsals and a workshop. The culmination is a unique encounter concert.

ChorWerk Ruhr · Sunday, June 25 St. Sebald 7pm

Experience the sound of eternity with works by Brahms, Messiaen, and Penderecki.

Lydia Maria Schimmer · Monday, June 26 St. Lorenz 12:15pm

In Germany, there are precisely two female cathedral music directors. One of them is Lydia Maria Schimmer from Stuttgart. She kicks off the popular Orgel-Mittagskonzerte series with a program centered around “Toccatieren and Fantasieren.”
