Exhibition: Rückkehr in die Heimat (Homecoming) – the collector and patron Werner Gundelfinger

Rückkehr in die Heimat (Homecoming)- the collector and patron Werner Gundelfinger

Werner Gundelfinger’s life is exemplary for the life of German Jews who survived abroad and returned to Germany in the immediate post-war period. At a time when the dividing line between perpetrator and victim is crystal clear, the concept of home for jews is filled with ambivalent feelings, and when the question of Jewish identity is taking on new dimensions after the experiences of the Shoah and exile. The exhibition “Return to Home” in the Jewish Museum Franken in Fürth impressively shows, using Werner Gundelfinger as an example, what Jewish life in Germany was like in the immediate post-war period for Jews who had returned. The exhibition is shown on the occasion of Werner Gundelfinger‘s 100th birthday.
